1 And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. 2 And Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God’s stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb? 3 And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her. 4 And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her. 5 And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son. 6 And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan. 7 And Bilhah Rachel’s maid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son. 8 And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali. 9 When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife. 10 And Zilpah Leah’s maid bare Jacob a son. 11 And Leah said, A troop cometh: and she called his name Gad. 12 And Zilpah Leah’s maid bare Jacob a second son. 13 And Leah said, Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher.
14 ¶ And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son’s mandrakes. 15 And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son’s mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son’s mandrakes. 16 And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son’s mandrakes. And he lay with her that night. 17 And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob the fifth son. 18 And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar. 19 And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son. 20 And Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun. 21 And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah.
22 ¶ And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. 23 And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach: 24 And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.
25 ¶ And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country. 26 Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee. 27 And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake. 28 And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it . 29 And he said unto him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy cattle was with me. 30 For it was little which thou hadst before I came , and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also? 31 And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock: 32 I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire. 33 So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before thy face: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me. 34 And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word. 35 And he removed that day the he goats that were ringstraked and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons. 36 And he set three days’ journey betwixt himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban’s flocks.
37 ¶ And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods. 38 And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink. 39 And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted. 40 And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban’s cattle. 41 And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods. 42 But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban’s, and the stronger Jacob’s. 43 And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.
1 Kad Rāhele redzēja, ka viņa Jēkabam nedeva bērnus, tā sāka apskaust savu māsu un teica Jēkabam: „Gādā man bērnus, ja ne, es miršu.“
2 Bet Jēkaba dusmas iekvēlojās pret Rāheli, un viņš sacīja: „Vai tad es esmu Dieva vietā, kas liedzis bērnus tavam klēpim?“
3 Tad tā teica viņam: „Lūk, man ir kalpone Bilha, ej pie tās, lai tā dzemdē uz maniem ceļiem, lai man rastos caur viņu dzimums.“
4 Un viņa tam deva Bilhu, savu kalponi, par sievu, un Jēkabs gāja pie tās.
5 Un Bilha tapa grūta un dzemdēja Jēkabam dēlu.
6 Un Rāhele sacīja: „Dievs man piešķīris tiesu un ir paklausījis mani un devis man dēlu,“ Un viņa nosauca tādēļ tā vārdu Dans.
7 Un Bilha tapa atkal grūta un dzemdēja kā Rāheles kalpone otru dēlu Jēkabam.
8 Un Rāhele sacija: „Es esmu izcīnījusi Dieva cīņu ar savu māsu un esmu uzvarējusi“; un viņa nosauca tā vārdu Naftalis.
9 Kad Lea vēroja, ka viņa bija beigusi dzemdēt, tā paņēma savu kalponi Zilfu, un deva to Jēkabam par sievu.
10 Un Zilfa, Leas kalpone, dzemdēja tam dēlu.
11 Un Lea teica: „Laime nāk,“ un nosauca tā vārdu Gads.
12 Un Leas kalpone Zilfa dzemdēja otru dēlu Jēkabam.
13 Un Lea teica: „Es laimīgā, jo mani teiks laimīgu visas sievietes“. Un tā nosauca viņa vārdu Ašers.
14 Un Rūbens reiz nāca ap kviešu pļaujamo laiku kādu dienu un atrada tīrumā mīlestības ābolus, un viņš tos atnesa savai mātei Leai. Tad Rāhele sacīja Leai: „Dod man kādu no tava dēla mīlestības āboliem.“
15 Tā teica: „Vai tad nav vēl diezgan, ka tu man esi atņēmusi manu vīru, tagad tu gribi paņemt arī mana dēla mīlestības ābolus?“ Tad Rāhele sacīja: „Lai tad arī viņš guļ pie tevis šo nakti tava dēla mīlestības ābolu dēļ.“
16 Un Jēkabs nāca vakarā no tīruma; tad Lea gāja tam pretī un sacīja viņam: „Tev jānāk pie manis, jo es tevi par sava dēla mīlestības āboliem pirktin esmu nopirkusi, un tev jāguļ šonakt ar mani.“
17 Un Dievs paklausīja Leu, un tā tapa grūta un dzemdēja Jēkabam piekto dēlu.
18 Un Lea sacīja: „Dievs man ir atmaksājis to, ka es esmu savam virām savu kalponi devusi.“ Un viņa nosauca tā vārdu Isašars.
19 Un Lea tapa atkal grūta un dzemdēja Jēkabam sesto dēlu.
20 Un Lea sacija: „Dievs mani pieminējis ar labu piemiņu, dodams dāvanu; nu reiz mans vīrs mājos pie manis, jo es tam esmu dzemdējusi sešus dēlus.“ Un viņa nosauca tā vārdu Zebulons.
21 Un pēc tā viņa dzemdēja meitu un nosauca viņu vārdā Dina.
22 Tad Dievs atcerējās Rāheli un paklausīja viņu, atverot tās klēpi.
23 Un viņa tapa grūta, un dzemdēja dēlu, un sacīja: „Dievs man ir atņēmis manu kaunu.“
24 Un viņa nosauca viņu vārdā Jāzeps, sacīdama: „Lai tas Kungs dod man vēl vienu dēlu.“
25 Un notika pēc tam, kad Rāhele bija dzemdējusi Jāzepu, ka Jēkabs sacija Lābanam: „Atlaid mani! Es gribu iet uz dzimteni, uz savu zemi.
26 Dod man manas sievas un manus bērnus, jo es tev par viņām esmu kalpojis, un es gribu doties ceļā; tu jau pats zini manu algu, par kādu es tev esmu bijis par kalpu.“
27 Un Lābans atbildēja: „Kaut es būtu atradis žēlastību tavās acīs; no zīmēm esmu nopratis, ka tas Kungs mani ir svētījis tevis dēļ.“
28 Un viņš sacīja: „Prasi tikai savu algu, es tev to došu.“
29 Un tas sacīja: „Tu zini to algu, par kādu es tev esmu kalpojis, kā es tev esmu kalpojis un kā tavs īpašums pieaudzis manā laikā.
30 Jo maz tev bija, pirms es atnācu, bet tas pieauga vairumā, un tas Kungs svētīja manus soļus. Bet tagad, kad lai es sāku gādāt arī par savu namu?“
31 Un tas sacīja: „Ko lai es tev dodu?“ Un Jēkabs sacīja: „Tev nekas nav jādod. Ja tu darīsi vienu lietu, ko es tev sacīšu, es būšu atkal par ganu un sargāšu tavus sīklopus.
32 Es šodien apstaigāšu visus tavus sīklopus. Atšķir no tiem visas avis, kas ir raibas vai lāsainas, un visus melnos starp jēriem un lāsainās un raibās kazu starpā. Tā lai ir mana alga.
33 Un mana taisnība lai dod liecību par mani nākamā laikā. Kad tu nāksi apskatīt manu algu, tad, kas nav raiba vai lāsaina starp kazām vai melns starp jēriem, to uzskati par manis zagtu.“
34 Un Lābans sacīja: „Labi, lai notiek, kā tu esi teicis.“
35 Un viņš atšķīra tanī dienā visus raibos un lāsainos āžus un visas raibās un lāsainas kazas, visus dzīvniekus, kam bija kāds baltums, un ikvienu melno starp jēriem un deva tos savu dēlu rokās.
36 Un viņš lika atstarpi triju dienu gājumā starp Jēkabu un sevi, un Jēkabs ganīja pārējos Lābana sīklopus.
37 Un Jēkabs ņēma svaigus dzinumus no apsēm un mandeļu kokiem un platānu kļavām un izdrāza baltas svītras, atsegdams baltumu, kāds bija rīkstēm.
38 Un šīs rīkstes, kuras viņš bija nomizojis, viņš lika lopu priekšā ūdens kubulos un dzirdāmās silēs, pie kurām avis nāca dzert, lai apietos dzerdamas.
39 Un sīklopi apgājās pār šiem kokiem, un tiem atnesās raibi, svītraini un lāsaini jēri un kazlēni.
40 Bet šos jērus Jēkabs atdalīja nost un vērsa visus sīklopu purnus uz strīpainajiem un melnajiem starp Lābana sīklopiem. Un tā viņš sagādāja ganāmpulkus pats sev un nepievienoja tos Lābana sīklopu pulkiem.
41 Un tiklīdz spēcīgākie sīklopi apgājās, Jēkabs lika minētos kociņus sīklopu acu priekšā ūdens tvertnēs, lai tie pār šīm klūdziņām apietos.
42 Bet vājākiem sīklopiem apejoties, viņš nelika neko; un tā vājākie sīklopi palika Lābanam, bet stiprākie Jēkabam.
43 Tā šis vīrs pieauga varā, jo tam bija daudz sīklopu, kalpoņu, kalpu, kamieļu un ēzeļu.
